We designed our Masters of Accounting Program Professional concentration for non-accounting undergraduates.
The program is convenient and flexible because we understand that students have different responsibilities and
schedules. You can design your own schedule. Examples of part-time and full time schedules are available.
The program is a 33-credit course of study that, with two accounting prerequisites for entry into the program,
fulfills the New Mexico Board of Accountancy requirements, and those of most other states, for sitting for the CPA exam.
The basic program requirements are: eight accounting classes (24 hours), and three non-accounting electives (9 hours),
which may include business law.
This program accepts applications for fall admission only. Students interested in the Professional concentration program must apply by June 1 for consideration for admission for the following fall semester. The full-time program may include both day and evening classes. Part-time students can expect to complete the program in 24 months. For scheduling convenience, our evening classes will be available both during the day and in the evening.
In addition to the 33-credit-hour program, students with no previous introductory accounting courses must complete two prerequisites, Introductory Financial Accounting, and Managerial Accounting. The prerequisites must be taken from an accredited institution. We encourage students to take the graduate level equivalents of these classes. Always check with the graduate programs manager to see if your accounting classes meet the prerequisite requirements. For students without the necessary prerequisites, Anderson Schools of Management offer MGMT 502, an introductory financial accounting course, and MGMT 503, a managerial accounting course. MGMT 502 is offered in Spring, Fall and Summer and MGMT 503 is offered in Fall and Spring. In addition, please check the schedule of classes for availability of MGMT 502 and MGMT 503 on-line.
