Offering tracks for students with or without an accounting background, Anderson's 33-hour Master's of Accounting (MACCT) will prepare you to be an expert in such areas as taxation, information assurance, auditing, finance, fraud and managerial accounting.

Individualized attention from MACCT staff and professors will help you develop the skills and analytical thinking required to pursue CPA certification or certified accounting management — and to become a leader in your field.

Tracks and Programs

Accounting and Assurance Track

  • For students with accounting backgrounds
  • On campus only
  • 33 credit hours

The MACCT Accounting and Assurance Track is for those with a BBA in accounting from an AACSB-accredited institution. This track prepares students to be experts in taxation, information assurance, auditing, finance, fraud and managerial accounting.

The MACCT Accounting and Assurance Track requires 21 credits of core courses, 6 courses in the Accounting section and 6 credits of electives for you to choose.

Tax Track

  • For students with accounting backgrounds
  • 33 credit hours

The MACCT Tax Track is for those with a BBA in accounting from an AACSB-accredited institution. This track prepares students to be experts in taxation, information assurance, auditing, finance, fraud and managerial accounting.

The MACCT Tax Track requires 21 credits of core courses, 9 credits in the Taxation section and 3 credits of electives for you to choose.

Professional Track

  • For students without accounting backgrounds
  • 33-39 credit hours

The MACCT Professional Track is designed for individuals with a non-accounting undergraduate degree who wish to enter public accounting as a certified professional. Students may be required to take 6 credit hours of introductory accounting coursework in addition to the MACCT curriculum.

 

Admission Requirements

Applicants to the MACCT program must hold a bachelor's degree with at least a 3.0 GPA.

What is a rolling deadline?

We're accepting applications on a rolling basis. Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and spots will be filled accordingly. We encourage you to apply early to secure your spot. Applications submitted after all spots have been filled will be considered for the following term.

 

BBA-MACCT Integrated Program

The BBA/MACCT program enables UNM BBA students to begin MACCT studies early, guaranteeing admission upon completion of the undergraduate degree and reducing the graduate degree's cost. Students admitted to this program will gain early admission to the MACCT, take graduate level courses in their senior year, earn a BBA degree with a concentration in accounting and a MACCT degree, and will also meet the requirements to take the CPA exam.

Suggested Timeline

  • For the first three years of university studies, you will pursue normal BBA in Accounting degree requirements, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, with a 3.5 GPA or higher for Cost Accounting and Financial Accounting I and II.
  • During the second semester of the third year of academic work, you will apply for admission to the MACCT program in the Anderson School.
  • In the fourth year of academic work, you will begin the first year of the MACCT program, completing 6 credits, and also completing the remaining requirements for your bachelor's degree.
  • In the fifth year of study, you will complete the remaining 27 credit hours in the MACCT program.
